                                                  Are you having Eye Problems?

There are more than ten million people in the United States that suffer from severe vision disability.  Everyone experiences eye trouble at one time or another.  Eyes that are bloodshot, blurry, dry, infected, irritated, itchy, sensitive to light, or ulcerated are among the most common health complaints.  Chronic eye problems, such as farsightedness, nearsightedness, cataracts, and glaucoma, are usually caused by disorders in the eye itself.

Eye problems are usually an indication of problems in other areas of the body.  In Chinese medicine, the liver is related to the eyes.  When the liver degenerates the eyes will deteriorate.  The spleen is also related to the eyes.  Anger and hate will injure the liver.  Emotions have a profound effect on the liver.

Macular Degeneration usually hits individuals 55 years and older.  It is associated with hardening of the arteries and hypertension.  Many eye specialists feel that clogged blood vessels are big contributors to blindness.  The cause is lack of  blood, nutrients and oxygen to the eyes.  The small blood vessels become constricted and hardened.  Free radical damage is also a major factor due to a high-meat and high-fat diet.  The liver and gallbladder cannot eliminate the excess oils and toxins because by constipation and autointoxication.

Blood shot eyes occur when small blood vessels on the surface of the eye become inflamed.  Inflammation of the capillaries on the surface of the eye can be caused by allergies or by exposure to airborne chemicals.  Other possible causes include eyestrain, fatigue, and disorders that impair circulation, including diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

Blurred Vision is usually caused by common vision defects such as farsightedness, nearsightedness and astigmatism.  Fluid imbalance in the eye can also cause blurred vision.  These disturbances may be limited to the eye itself, as in eyestrain and excessive tearing, or they may reflect disturbances in fluid balance throughout the body, as in diabetes, high blood pressure, and PMS.

Other eye problems that can be early indicators of diseases in the body are:

Dark circles under the eyes are a sign of allergies. Watery and red eyes are sign of a cold coming on. Bulging eyes can indicate thyroid problems and yellowing of the eyes is an indication of hepatitis, liver problems or gallbladder problems. Conjunctivitis is caused by viruses, although in rare instances a bacterial infection may be responsible.

Nutritional Therapy:

Dealing with the health of the liver and gallbladder and using a good colon cleanser is essential.  A change of diet may be necessary.  Antioxidants will help eliminate free radical damage.  The eyes along with the brain, require more nutrition and oxygen than any other single part of the body.  Poor nutrition clogs up tiny arteries, veins and capillaries that support the visual system.  Flaxseed oil and salmon oil help to keep the veins clean and prevent blood clotting.  Single herbs for eye health include Bilberry which strengthens eyes, is a rich source of antioxidants and nutrients.  It improves circulation and helps prevent plaque build up in the blood vessels and capillaries.  It improves circulation and blood flow to heal the eye area.  Eyebright aids in stimulating the liver to clean the blood and veins.  It has antiseptic properties that fight infection of the eyes.  Lecithin helps protect the nerves and brain.  It protects against the build up of fatty material in the veins and capillaries.  Herbal Formulas: Blood Cleanser, Circulation Aid, R.T.E.
