I feel this is the QUEEN of herbs.  Mainly because it does so much for women.  I’m talking about Red Raspberry leaves.  A famous herbalist in England, Henry Box, praised Red Raspberry as the best gift God ever gave to women.  The raspberry is a deciduous shrub that grows as high as six feet.  It has woody stems with thorns, pale green leaves, white, and edible red berries.  The leaves are the part of the plant used in herbal medicine.  They are a rich source of vitamin C and contain manganese, iron, phosphorus and niacin.
It is extremely important for pregnant women and Mares in foal too, as a matter of fact. The most common use of raspberry leaves is as a uterine tonic.  It has the ability to relax tight uterine muscles and tighten relaxed uterine muscles.  This has lead to its use as a stimulant at the beginning of labor.  If the pains of childbirth are premature, it will make all quiet.  If the mother is weak, it will abundantly strengthen her, cleanse her and enrich her milk.  It is excellent for a safe and easy childbirth.  It is good for a weak stomach and contains tannins, which are effective for nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
Also to prevent hemorrhage and enrich colostrum found in breast milk.
It is wonderful for treating children’s conditions such as colds, diarrhea, colic, fever, bed-wetting and other childhood diseases.  For a sore throat, its astringent properties justify using raspberry leaf tea as a mouthwash and gargle for mouth or throat inflammation.
It is very useful for PMS.  It contains ferulic acid, which is a uterine relaxant, and can help relieve menstrual cramps.  At the same time as it relaxes the uterus itself, it stimulates the muscles that support the uterus.  This allows easier menstrual flow.  Drinking the tea will relieve painful menstruation and aid the flow; if it is too heavy, it will decrease without abruptly stopping it.  Drinking the tea after birth will help decrease uterine swelling and cut down on post partum bleeding.
Red raspberry is high in calcium, which may help relax the uterine muscles.  It is rich in iron to strengthen the blood and protects against toxemia and provides nourishment to the fetus.  It contains essential minerals required during pregnancy and menstrual periods.  It contains Vitamins A, C, D, G, F, and B-complex, all of which are vital for a healthy body. Also contains folic acid, glycosides, magnesium, selenium, bioflavonoids, zinc & biotin.
Considerations for use: Raspberry leaf is used as tea.  (Do not confuse raspberry leaf teas with sweetened, raspberry-flavored drinks.)  Since raspberry leaf is a uterine stimulant that can hasten childbirth, it should not be used on a regular basis – that is more than two cups in any single day or more than twice in any given weeks – during the first trimester of pregnancy.
